Biking Total

After a prompting in a comment....

Week three and I'm been surprisingly good with the cycling what with still riding to work in the rain (I was rather wet yesterday). Total miles is around 74. This weekend I'll submit my last piece of coursework and all that's left of my dissertation is some minor grammar and typographical changes before submitting it to the company system to approve it, before submitting it to the university. So I should have more free time after this weekend. I need to start to ride other places rather than just to and from work...

Biking Total

So one week in with my new bike and I've ridden 28 miles. Might not be much but it's better than nothing. Here's looking at another 20 odd miles next week.

Galaxy Zoo

I spent a good few hours yesterday classifying galaxies for Galaxy Zoo. Although there were a lot of unidentifiable blobs there were a few that I thought looked pretty...

News

So - I officially have come 'News' with a capital 'N'. Thursday I had a promotion interview. I don't know how it works at other companies but at mine you have to put a pack together all about you and why you deserve it. The first part covers your career to date, your training history, your CV - stuff like that. The next part is all about why you deserve it. You have to select up to three pieces of work that prove your ability and tick all the boxes on the company promotion criteria tree. You have to write a page about each summing up all the things that tick those all important boxes.

Gaming Reflects Real Life

Just like in real life, while those around her stream through the finish, Kat's stuck upside down with her wheels in the air... facing the wrong way!Just like in real life, while those around her stream through the finish, Kat's stuck upside down with her wheels in the air... facing the wrong way!

Driving Around

So I've spent my weekend playing Track Mania, a multiplayer online racing game. I say 'racing' but a good proportion of that I was enaged in the sort of activity as illustrated by the screenshot below ;-)

{dowders} lol - who's that stuck in the tree?
{kat} err.... that would be me... {Take screenshot}{dowders} lol - who's that stuck in the tree?

Rolls-Royce Families Day 2008

On the 14th of June, Roll-Royce had an open day. They tend to run one once every couple of years with Airbus on the same day for the families of employees to take a look around the site and see some displays (Airbus is located just over the road from Rolls-Royce in Bristol). This year was on odd one without Airbus to give families a look around the new site and the new buildings that have now been built as part of the site regeneration. I went along as it was too nice a day to stay inside and the displays can be interesting.

I tried taking some panoramic photos of the site while there and the image below is one of them. This building can be seen by the public from the A38 - the other main panoramic image I took is not visible from a public area so I won't be posting it.

Computer Troubles

I keep all my photos an external hard drive which is set up as a mirrored RAID with two 400GB hard drives. I've been noticing that it's been making a lot of noise recently and not turning itself off properly when the computer it connects to shuts down so I've sort of been expecting it to start dieing soon. Yesterday was the first day that it struggled to connect properly to the computer once it had power taking around half an hour with fiddling and turing it on and off to get Windows to recognise it as a drive.

Me and My Brother 'Posing' on a Bronze Age Mound

I've been sorting photos and stitching panoramas for most of today and yesterday. After admonisment that I hadn't posted anything for a long while I present you with an old panorama that me and my brother, Edd, took when I was visiting him in April 2007. We are overall quite small but that is a good thing as I look really fat in this picture! I'd tell you all about the mound we are sitting on but being honest, is the thing really interesting enough to make it worth it?!
