Sinestetici - The Definition of Imperfection

I've been listening to The Definition of Imperfection for most of today. It grabbed my attention as soon as it started playing and has held it since. The set contains music that is relaxing with a mixture of electronic and acoustic music overlaid with what I assume are Sinestetici's lyrics. Tracks 5 and 6 are quite folky sounding which may not be to all tastes but after listening to them a couple of times I found that I was liking them too. Overall it is well worth checking out. Try it, you might like it.

Words to try to interject in conversation

I was given this link from Miriam-Webster Online on favourite words that are not in the dictionary. My resolution for this week is to try to use the word 'stealth-geek' in normal conversation as it is very cool in my opinion.

stealth-geek (n): one that hides nerdy interests while maintaining a normal outward appearance.

I wish I was more stealth-geek rather than just a geek...

Douglas Adams - Interviews by Don Swain

I found this while searching for audiobooks. It's from Wired for Books and contains a couple of interviews with Douglas Adams, one from 1983 and one from 1989. Although the interviews are old and a lot of the events that they talk about are obviously out of date I think they give a good insight into Douglas Adams and are well worth a listen. You'll need real player to stream them and just under an hour free to sit and listen to them.

Seti@home Milestone!

I've finally done it! I've passed the 10,000 credit mark on my Boinc Seti@home project and am now the proud owner of 10,0022.4 credits with 216 Classic Seti units. I've been a member of the seti project since December 2003 and i feels good to be doing something that helps the scientific community - even if the possibility of finding intelligent life elsewhere in the universe is very very slim. I'm not one of the power number crunchers (the top participant has nearly 4 million credits) but it makes me feel good and I guess that's all that matters.

Happy Birthday Mat!

Hey Mat! Hope you have a great birthday today. Lot's of love, Kat xxx.

Creative Zen Touch

I finally got my new toy through this week, a Creative Zen Touch.

Of the reviews I'd read it seemed like the Creative player has many advantages over the IPod and since I've bought other creative products and been very happy with them I thought why not.

Encoded in pi

I've seen a few sites now that talk about pi (the mathematical number that relates the radius of a circle to it's circumference and area) and how things can be said to be encoded in it and as it's got me thinking quite a lot I thought I'd write about it.

Aleksi Virta - ..Meets Torsti at the Space Lounge

My first music reccomendation.

I've been listening to Aleksi Virta - ..Meets Torsti at the Space Lounge pretty much constantly throughout the last couple of weeks and it's definitely something that I'll stick on my MP3 player when it finally arrives. It's a mixture of a jazz/funk/electronic sound and it's very very cool. The music is very catchy, in no time you'll be humming along to the instrumental and it just begs you to dance around the place with it's beat. It's just right to relax with in the summer sun.

Pick your favourite player, crank up the sound and stream or download it if you're on a slow connection. It's definitely worth it in my opinion.

Do Magpies Hide Food?

I just watched a very strange thing. A fat magpie outside my window managed to find a huge piece of bread on the lawn. Rather than stand there and eat it piece by piece it appeared to try to hide it. It seemed to shove it into the ground and then try and hide it by covering it with bits of loose grass. It even seemed to dig up bits of growing grass to place on top of it.

Do magpies hide food? I confess I don't know but it certainly seems like it.

I Answered the "Call of Duty" and Died - Several Times

I bought a copy of Call of Duty a few days ago and today was the first chance I had to install it and give it a go. I know it's odd for a woman to enjoy war related stuff but I've never been what you would call typical. I don't play many first person shooters so I'm uniformly bad at them. I think the last time I played was multiplayer with my brothers about a year and a half ago (I could beat one semi regularly but not the other - die evil brother die!) so that gives you some idea of my overall experience.
