Another Necklace

I had a huge bag of matt clear seed beads bought at the Essex Bead Fair and a piece of fused and combed irregularly shaped glass that I was at a loss on what to do with it. Coupled with no projects on the go at the time, I decided to use the seed beads to make a twisted rope and the glass to use as a cabochon. I'd seen a similar idea of using seed beads to set up the cabochon in one of the beading magazines, but also Googled to find other instructions. The ones I eventually used were from an Article by Ann Brodrick published in the October 1998 issue of Lapidary Journal. The Article was reprinted at

Here's the completed necklace.

The green beads around the cabochon are Miyuki Delica ones from Japan and bought from

The Delica beads are very good quality, being uniform in size and shape. I mentioned the problems with cheaper beads in an earlier post with pictures of the Frog card. I tend to order from that company now as I receive the order in a matter of two or three days.
The pendant is backed with purple leather. I have a habit of cutting up old leather clothing and secreting the bits away to use at a later date. The purple was the nearest in colour that I had to the colours in the pendant glass.

The clasp is a toggle one made from 1mm silver wire. I decided to make a toggle ring and bar rather than buy a ready made one and the result is not too bad for a first try. The end caps on the seed bead rope were bought, but I made the jump rings and green lampwork beads. The clasp and beads: Close up of clasp. The clasp and beads: Close up of clasp.
I don't know whether I'll ever wear the necklace but it was fun to make and that's the main thing.
