In my previous comment "The smallest, the 15's are about 9mm.", the 9mm should of course have been 0.9mm. Here's another picture made with Miyuki Delica size 11 seed beads. Kwanzaa Mask: 78 x 102 mm and just under 8,000 beads
That's because it was made from a cross stitch pattern and cross stitch allows for half stitches. You can't add half a bead. In crosstitch, backstitch sometimes outlines elements to make them more pronounced. I couldn't do this with beads so did a version of backstitch over the beads.
I have thought about painting the outlines in on beads instead of backstitch, but have not tried it yet. I'd have to use a virtually hairless paintbrush and Pebeo paints or something that would not brush off too easily, see

I tried replying to this after discovering that I'd missed the comment originally only to lose my comments when I inadvertently clicked the wrong button whilst half asleep. But here goes again. The seed beads are the black ones, but in this case they are triangular in shape. Other shapes of beads are cubic, bugle, cylindrical etc. and if you are really interested in what's available, have a look at

If I order from them one morning, I get the beads by Royal Mail in the following day's post. The beads come in sizes and the smaller beads do look like seeds. For example the size 11 bead is about 1.3mm whereas the size 6 are nearly 3mm wide. The smallest, the 15's are about 9mm. To add to the confusion, some manufacturers size their beads differently. Another tip I've picked up are that the Japanese beads are the most uniform in size and shape.
Heres a couple of little pictures using seed beads. Polly want a cracker: Size 11 seed beads. Peyote stitch.
and a more colourful one done after Polly, Snowman: Peyote stitch. Done after Polly
and finally, in case you don't recognise this, it's a dog doing a handstand with a ball by his side. You notice I say his because no female dog or bitch would be caught dead doing a handstand. Dog from cross stitch pattern: I experimented with using a cross stitch pattern for beading in square stitch.

Random Handstands
The dog doing a handstand is kind of random.... it looks cool though. It's helped a lot by the outlining stitches that you have included.
