I took this photo on Canvey Lake yesterday, The birds were on the only bit of open water. I bought a cheap loaf of bread at Sainsbury's to feed them and had the Swans and geese taking bread from my hands. I was throwing small pieces of bread out to the ducks but the enterprising seagulls were catching the pieces before they fell to the ground.
This morning I made a serious attempt at photographing star trails. Rather than sitting out in the cold for a few hours on my own I decided that to get a method down I'd try shooting out my window, allowing me to stay inside in the warm and also use my computer to remotely take photos for me. This way I could watch a dvd while seeing photos magically be downloaded onto my computer without having to press a shutter button or time exposures manually.
I'd had a previous attempt last night, messing around taking shots out my window and got to an exposure time of 990 seconds for a single photo. After managing two of these my battery gave up as it wasn't fully charged to start but with two images I could test out the stacking of the photos to see how it would go.
Dave in the queue at the Big Pit: Sitting waiting for our turn for the underground tour at the Big Pit. Dave either has an obsession with his iPhone (it was almost never out of his hand, while he 'stroked' it's touchscreen) or I am too boring to keep him amused thus him needing a distraction :-)

UPDATED WITH A THIRD PICTURE:
Just in case you are feeling homesick Kat, it's never a dull moment on Canvey.
It seems he failed to take the bend, overcorrected and clipped the corner of the garden fence on our side of the road before trying to cross the beck. Makes a change from all the accidents on the roundabout outside our house.
After a small frost last night, I tottered down to the kitchen at about 8.00am to feed the cats and saw a fox walking across the lawn. Later, after the sun came out and whilst I was torching, DH saw the same fox come back onto the lawn and sit curled up in the sun. Here's a picture taken by him through the kitchen window.Foxy Visitor
