This seal was the perfect model. It changed position a number of times, including moving from the tarmac of the car park into a more shady place in the vegetation at the side. Other seals were further down the shore on the shingle and basking on rocks.
This was taken at a seal colony at Kaikoura. The animals are wild but are so used to tourists that most just continue to sunbathe when a camera approaches. Signs warn to stay at least 10 metres away from the animals but some are more docile than others so allowed some closer shots.
What pictures to post. We took so many that it's difficult to chose. This one is from a helicopter trip over the Franz Josef and Fox Glaciers in New Zealand's west part of the South Island. Apart from the helicopter engine, there was perfect peace and the world was clean and fresh.
